WRO Age Requirements 

WRO operates under specific age groups.

Age requirements also apply to coaches.

The information below should be studied carefully when forming a team or participating.

Coaches

Coaches must be 18 years or older to coach teams at the international final.

WeDo

WeDo Challenges are open to participants who are under 11 years of age. For 2022, this means participants should be born in 2012 or later. In Australia this roughly equates to students in Grade/Year 4-5* and below. Please note that WeDo challenges are not included in the international final.

RoboMission & Future Innovators Categories

Elementary

Elementary is open to participants who are 8 years to under 13 years of age. For 2022 this means participants should be born in 2010 to 2014. In Australia this roughly equates to students from Grade/Year 3-4 to Grade/Year 6-7*.

Students who are 13 years old or above will not be accepted.

Junior

Junior is open to participants who are 11 to under 16 years of age. For 2022, this means participants should be born 2007 to 2011. In Australia this roughly equates students in Grades/Years 6-7* to 9-10*.

Students who are 16 years old or above will not be accepted in this age group.

If one or more team members are under 11 years of age, special permission must be sought before participating. This application may be rejected.

Senior

Senior is open to participants who are 14 to under 20 years of age*. For 2022, this means participants should be born 2003-2008. In Australia this roughly equates to students in Grades/Years 9-12*, undergraduate university, vocational education, etc.

Students who are 20 years old or above will not be accepted in this age group.

If one or more team members are under 14 years of age, special permission must be sought before participating. This application may be rejected.

RoboSports

RoboSports is open to participants 11 to under 20 years of age. For 2022, this means participants should be born 2003-2011. In Australia this roughly equates to students in Grades/Years 5-6* through to 10-12*, undergraduate university, vocational education, etc.

Students who are 20 years old or above will not be accepted in this category.

Future Engineers

Future Engineers is open to participants 14 to under 20 years of age. For 2022, this means participants should be born 2003-2008.

*Note: Variations in student ages do exist across Grade/Year levels across Australia. It is always prudent to double check the birthdates of potential team members before forming teams and selecting age groups.
