Coaching

WRO competitions are team based. Teams consist of two (2) to three (3) members. Each team is assisted by a coach.

Coaches must be at least 18 years of age.

Coaches may assist more than one team, but during WRO competitions (particularly national or international finals) each team must be assisted by a responsible adult (i.e. 1 team, 1 dedicated responsible adult). These people will act as an assistant coach and therefore should be registered along with the team. Minimum age for assistant coaches is also 18 years.

When working as a coach you may offer students advice and guidance prior to competitions; however this does not mean you do the work for the team. The ideas behind the team’s project must be those of the students, not the coach. The programs used for the robot must be the students not those of the coach. The design and construction of the robot and all other items must be completed by the students, not the coach. Setting up on the day of the competition must be done by the students, not the coach.

During WRO competitions, all work must be performed by the team members themselves.

Teams maybe penalised as a result of coaches (assistant coaches, parents, etc.) who interfere in the staging of the competition.
