What’s required?

For a team to participate in a WRO competition, specific equipment is generally required. Details of the equipment requirements for each category can be found in the General Rules for that category.

Controllers that are allowed vary for each category. Please refer to the category’s General Rules for information about controllers.

To participate in the RoboMission Category, the General Rules outline the specific sensors and motors that are allowed. Apart from these, only LEGO branded parts are allowed. This includes not only LEGO Mindstorms and SPIKE PRIME kits and resource sets, but also LEGO Technic sets, etc.

Please refer to the General Rules for information concerning programming software allowed in specific categories..

Like the RoboMission Category, RoboSport only uses LEGO branded parts.

The RoboMission Category playing mats incorporate elements made from LEGO elements. A WRO Brick Set has been made by LEGO and should be available through LEGO Education Dealers. This WRO Brick Set is reusable annually for one RoboMission Category play mat.

Generally in competitions, printed play mats and fields/courts are mounted on tables. This is not necessary however, for practice and simple competitions play mats and fields can be set up on the floor with a frame placed around them (see the General Rules of each category for the specific dimensions of the frames).

Future Innovators Category allows students to be very flexible in their robot design. The any controller can be used and there are no restrictions placed on any other materials used in the robot or the software used to program it.

Future Innovators also required students to make posters explaining/promoting their robotic solution, as well as video and to keep a log of the team’s work. It is useful for teams in the category to remember the size of the booth they have to present their robot in. They should make good use of the space and make sure that it is attractive to the eye and provides useful information. Many teams develop posters and charts that are of very high quality with no spelling or grammatical errors. Some developed using desktop publishing and graphic art software and printed on wide-format printers. Many Future Innovators booths reasonable professional booths that can be found at trade shows.

When presenting their robotic solution, Future Innovators team members are encouraged to work as a team, each delivery aspects of their presentation. Many teams develop character roles for their presentation based around the WRO theme for the year and the particular problem or need that their solution connects with. Team members often make their presentations in costumes befitting their solution.

Future Engineers is an advanced robotics challenge. Please refer to the category rules for guidelines and requirements.
